We’re pleased to announce the promotion of Ron Pretty, PE, PTOE, to Traffic Team Leader for Michigan East at Clark Dietz!
Ron has been an integral part of our Farmington Hills, MI, office and brings more than a decade of transportation engineering experience, including several years supporting Clark Dietz clients across Michigan. His promotion reflects both his technical contributions and his passion for leading projects that improve traffic flow, mobility, and safety.
Ron specializes in traffic operations and safety, including signal timing, crash analysis, work zone safety evaluations, capacity studies, and traffic impact analysis. His technical background includes proficiency with tools like Miovision, Highway Capacity Software (HCS 2023), Highway Safety Software, and the Interactive Highway Safety Design Model (IHSDM). He is well-versed in MUTCD standards, MDOT’s Transportation Data Management System (TDMS), and both AASHTO and MDOT design guidelines.
Over the years, Ron has supported a wide range of projects for MDOT, local municipalities, and county road commissions, working closely with stakeholders to deliver actionable, data-informed solutions. His experience also includes early career work with the City of Ann Arbor, where he developed his foundation in traffic data and safety.
Last month, Ron earned his Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification, administered by the Transportation Professional Certification Board (TPCB). He is also a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and an active participant in ITE, which supported his certification process through valuable training and resources.
“It’s rewarding to step into a role where I can help shape traffic projects from start to finish,” Ron says. “I’m excited to help grow our presence in Michigan and continue providing thoughtful, data-driven solutions for our clients.”
Ron is a proud graduate of Wayne State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He brings an approachable leadership style, a strong commitment to mentorship, and a strategic mindset to the Traffic Team Leader role.
“Ron has shown he’s ready to take the lead,” says Leigh Burgess, PE, PTOE, Area Manager for Michigan East. “His dedication, communication skills, and depth of knowledge are exactly what we need as we continue expanding our traffic services in Michigan.”
Ron joins other engineers in holding the PTOE certification, including engineering leaders Sean Widener, PE, PTOE, and Leigh Burgess, PE, PTOE. We’re proud to have him in a leadership position, helping to grow our traffic and safety services and enhance mobility throughout the region.
Congratulations, Ron! We look forward to your continued leadership and impact.
