Clark Dietz is excited to support the Sanitary District of Decatur (SDD) with a new force main design to boost reliability and capacity in Decatur’s wastewater system.

Project Highlights

Serving over 80,000 residents, SDD’s infrastructure includes the Lost Bridge Lift Station, which handles sanitary flows from the east side of Lake Decatur. Clark Dietz’s design features a 14-inch force main, installed via horizontal directional drilling under the lake, to replace a 1950s-era pipe and supplement an existing 14-inch PVC main. This upgrade will prevent overflows during peak conditions, protect Lake Decatur, and ensure resilient wastewater service for the community.

Current Milestone

In October, the project team completed the pullback (as seen in the video below), achieving a major step in the installation of the force main. The next step will be to connect the pipe on both sides to the Sanitary District’s existing infrastructure. This infrastructure includes a pump station on the east side of the Lake and an existing force main on the west side. Once connected by the project team, the pipe will be put into operation.
