Main Street Water Main Replacement
Normal, IL
Design and construction phase services were provided to replace an old undersized 12-inch water main with a new 16-inch water main. Approximately 4,200 LF of 16-inch water main was designed and installed with approximately 800 feet being installed in a 30-inch HDPE casing pipe that was horizontally directionally drilled under Interstate 55. The installation crossed the interstate and part of the US Route 51 interchange in close proximity to the overpass at this interchange. Special coordination between IDOT, the Town of Normal and the contractor was required during this installation to maintain traffic flow and protect all existing infrastructure. The project included:
- Design of 4,200 lineal feet of 16-inch water main, 800 feet of which were installed in a 30-inch HDPE casing pipe installed using trenchless installation methods.
- Coordination with IDOT and the Town of Normal to maintain open all lanes of traffic along US Route 51 and Interstate 55, as well as all ramps within the interchange.
- Construction observation of the horizontal directional drilling procedure, including the pilot hole drilling, reaming and pulling of the HDPE casing pipe.
- Construction phase services that included permitting, construction observation, Contractor coordination, and record drawings.
