The Longmeadow Parkway Ribbon-Cutting ceremony recently celebrated the completion of an essential transportation project that will benefit Kane County for years to come. On the day of the event, Governor JB Pritzker delivered a keynote speech in front of a crowd of approximately 200 attendees, including local stakeholders, media representatives, engineers, contractors, and community members.
After the ceremony, the bridge officially opened to the public, marking the first time the entire Longmeadow Parkway corridor is fully accessible. This critical milestone was achieved through the combined efforts of the Kane County Division of Transportation (KDOT), Clark Dietz, and multiple partners, all working to enhance regional connectivity and provide a new four-lane arterial highway and Fox River crossing.
Project Overview
Clark Dietz provided construction engineering services for the new intersection connecting Longmeadow Parkway to IL 25 in the Village of Carpentersville. This project included a fully signalized intersection and a connection between the western terminus of IL 25 and IL 62. Daily traffic on IL 25 averages 17,000 vehicles, and this intersection will significantly improve traffic flow in the area.
Key construction activities involved tree removal, earthwork, grading, installation of a soldier pile retaining wall, enclosed drainage systems, water mains, traffic signals, signage, landscaping, and final pavement markings. The project also required close coordination with utility providers and local municipalities to ensure minimal disruption to nearby farmland.
With funding provided through STP and CMAQ programs, the $5.6 million project was a collaborative effort between Clark Dietz and KDOT. For its work on this project, Clark Dietz was honored with the 2019 Kane County Consultant of the Year Award for Phase III Construction Engineering Services.
A Testament to Teamwork
Clark Dietz’s Al Lapinskas, PE, emphasized the significance of this project:
“The Longmeadow Parkway provides not only a vital transportation link but also a pathway to future economic growth for Kane County. It has been a privilege to work alongside such a dedicated team to bring this vision to life.”
Carl Schoedel, PE, Kane County Engineer, also praised Clark Dietz for its role in the project stating,
“As the prime consultant of the Longmeadow Parkway Stage C-3 at IL 25 project, Clark Dietz provided superior construction engineering oversight services for the $5.6M intersection improvement.”
The successful completion of Longmeadow Parkway underscores Clark Dietz’s ongoing commitment to delivering quality infrastructure that supports the communities we serve. The opening of the corridor marks a new chapter for residents and travelers in Kane County, improving safety, reducing congestion, and connecting communities.
